Into The Haunted Ground Book Club

For the first The Wisdom Seat Author Series offerings, we studied Anam Thubten's book Into the Haunted Ground.

63 members of our community joined, and Anam Thubten joined the group on the fourth evening to discuss the book.

This author series was hosted by Michael Carroll, Matt Dirodio, and Geoff Matis.

Those wishing to see the recorded discussions can join the recorded online program here.

Anam Thubten’s new book invites us to explore the “haunted grounds” of our minds where life’s circumstances – sometimes terrifying; sometimes joyful; often seemingly uneventful – encourage us to dismantle our confusion and awaken to our original nature. Exploring the teachings of the renowned female tantric yogini Machig Labdrön, Anam Thubten presents the core teachings of Chöd in accessible terms, accompanied by playful stories and inspirational anecdotes.

Over this seven-session study and practice series led by Michael Carroll and Matt DiRodio, participants met virtually to:

  • Practice mindfulness awareness meditation

  • Read and discuss the book

  • Pose questions and share insights

  • Meet with the author, Anam Thubten, to explore together the depth of the text

Anam Thubten grew up in Tibet and at an early age began to practice in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Among his many teachers, his most formative guides were Lama Tsurlo, Khenpo Chopel, and Lama Garwang. He is the founder and spiritual advisor of Dharmata Foundation, teaching widely in the U.S. and abroad. He is also the author of various articles and books in both the Tibetan and English language. His books in English include The Magic of Awareness and No Self, No Problem.
