  • What are the Covid-19 Guidelines?
COVID-19 guidelines have been broadly relaxed in NY State for 2024 which is welcome news, and we're following suit with our guidelines. However, COVID infections continue and often increase in the autumn. The Wisdom Seat is committed to the health and well-being of all participants for our retreat, and we have adopted guidelines that have been designed and successfully implemented for other meditation retreats. We encourage each participant to make decisions that are best for their health and comfort. As of the writing of this policy, we will not be requiring masks during the retreat though we support those who wish to continue to mask and social distance. We are asking each participant to take a Covid test 48 hours before attending the October 12th orientation. We then ask each participant to confirm a negative test result with a picture of the results or your simple acknowledgement that you indeed did test negative by uploading a photo of your test result here: https://forms.wix.com/f/7163169805900448708. By complying with this policy, all retreatants can rest assured that 100% of those in attendance have tested negative for Covid, fostering a shared atmosphere of safety and mutual respect for each other’s well-being. We will remain flexible as the retreat approaches and will adjust our Covid guidelines if needed.
  • What is ROTA?
It is traditional in Buddhist retreat and monastic settings for practitioners to participate in the daily chores and during this retreat all participants will be expected to spend approximately 60 - 75 minutes per day completing assigned tasks. By tradition, such daily work is considered mindfulness in action: an extension of our meditative discipline where we express our natural wakefulness in caring for our world and our life altogether.
  • When is arrival and departure?
Arrival and orientation: Saturday, October 12, 2024 12:00noon – 4:00pm. Departure: The retreat ends on 12:30pm on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
  • How do I travel to the retreat?
Please visit the monastery's website here for information: https://kagyu.org/#visit
  • What is functional silence?
Functional silence during a retreat is a traditional practice designed to promote a contemplative atmosphere for practice and study, by limiting your communication with fellow participants to only practical, required dialog.
